Technology and social media have all made a big influence in my life, but the one thing that has changed my life is the use of a cell phone. You might ask yourself, why a cell phone? Well cell phones have been improving a lot over the years and they have become a lot more technologically advanced than they used to be. My first experience with a cell phone was when I was in the fifth grade. It was not one of those cool styled phones that every popular kid had. It was one of those we now call dinosaur flip phones from boost mobile. I was not on a contract or anything it was a pre paid phone. A pre paid phone is where you put in money for a certain amount of minutes. My first experience with a cellphone and the reason why it changed my life was because one day when I was in elementary school, my parents did not show up to pick me and my brothers up from school. We did not know what to do or where to go. I was in the fifth grade and I had two other brothers who were both younger than I was.
Where are my parents?
I don't know.
I want to go home!
Me too.
Come on now let's go wait inside the school office.
That was my first experience with out having the use of a cell phone. We waited after school. It was me and my two little brothers waiting for my parents to pick us up, but none of my parents nor my grandparents ever did. I was in the fifth grade my little brother was in fourth grade and my baby brother was in Kinder. My dad was working from 8am till 5pm, and my mom got caught up in errands and also got caught in traffic. My siblings and I were waiting in the office till 5:30 pm until my mom finally arrived and pick us up from school. The staff at Kelly Elementary School had to check our information to see if it matched the information my mom was giving them and they also checked her ID to see if she was really our mom. Verifying all of our information was a long process and my brothers and I were just anxious to go home. We did not want to stay at school any longer then we had to. It was bad enough that we had already been there all day,
Where were you!?
Sorry hijos the traffic was horrible and there was a big car crash. The cops stopped traffic for four whole hours and there was no way to contact any of you guys.
Why did you guys not walk home?
Tengo hambre!
I am hungry!
We did not know how to get home and we don't have house keys to get in the front gate and into the house.
The whole ride home was silent.
A whole week passed and my mom arrived on time to school to pick us up. Friday around 6pm my dad came home late. He called me over. Leo come and sit down next to me. Your mother and I need to have a chat with you.
Now listen up, mijo. You did a good thing taking in your brothers and waiting for us to arrive, but you can't always do that. Your mother and I have been talking and we have decided that it is time for you to get something. My dad slowly pulled out some keys and a box from his lunch case.It was a dinosaur flip phone from boost moblie. Now we already put in our numbers and your grandparents number in but, only use it for emergency use only. You only have 10 dollars worth of minutes in there. I slowly shook my head with joy and with a big smile on my face I said thank you and started to mess around with it. I started to poke the buttons, started to take pictures and act like the really cool guy because I have a phone now.
That was my very first life changing experience that had to do with technology. Now my cell phone is my whole life. It is my alarm clock, music player, my way to call friends, family and work. I use it to text, take pictures, surf the web, interact on social media, check my email, etc. My whole life is within my cellphone without it I am probably nothing. I would feel lost without it because my phone is my guide to my lifestyle. I went from a flip phone from boost mobile to a note 4 T-Mobile phone. My phone is like the key to my life.It is basically the only way I communicate for school, work, family and friends.
