Diet and exercise
Diet is a good way to lose weight. So many people eat big portions based on the tastes. I used to eat really big portions like fast food because I was so addicted to grease and sugar that adds flavor. Most people just love those products do to the taste. However, it is not the best for our bodies. Obesity is rising rapidly and is associated with many serious and even life threatening diseases. Because it makes us over weight that makes us sick. It also shortens up our lives. But as we make our eating habits better by eating more healthy choices, It will help us be more fit and helps us become more energized. I will also notice a boost in self esteem and confidence while feeling more fulfilled in a daily basis. I used to eat out almost everyday. That made me overweight and I would get sick a lot. I have a friend who influenced me to go on a diet with him. Cause I saw how in shape he was I wanted to get tips from him. Now that I am eating healthier, it made me drop weight fast and I feel more happy than I ever had. I came to realize that eating delicious and fattening food is only temporal happiness while eating healthy is eternal happiness. Another part that is good for our health is exercising. The physical benefits of exercise improves physical conditions and fighting diseases. It also makes us feel good and reduces stress. Cause Stress is not good for us. It increases our blood pressure which shortens up our lives. When stress affects the brain, it impacts the body as well. As we develop a workout routine, It helps us feel accomplished and make us want to do it more. I now workout everyday and I have never felt better. I have more energy than ever before and I can run faster.

I would create an app that gives fast and direct answers to any question you have using reliable sources. It would provide quick and direct answers to anything from a question you dont understand on your homework, to the name of the song thats been stuck in your head all day. You just ask or type in the question and it automatically tells you the answer. Sure any search engine is capable of doing this, but this app would give direct answers and do all the research for you. It wont mistake opinion over knowledge so its a lot more reliable than just asking any person a question. This app would obviously be convenient and useful for anyone that doesnt know all the answers in life (aka everyone)

I want to add a new feature to the Uber application. Uber is an app where the user can request a black car service to a location for transportation. Some rides are better than the other and in that case it would be nice to keep our favorite drivers in a folder for future use. Currently Uber only allows you to rate your driver 1-5 stars with 5 being extremely satisfied. After the drop off occurs that's where all communication with your driver ends. For example, I get dropped off at LAX on a Monday morning and my driver was amazing beginning to end. He was quick and professional. I begin to think how pleasant it would be if he could pick me up when I returned. The problem now is that I have no way of retaining any information about my driver. With my improvement I would create a Favorites folder that organizes them chronologically according to drop off day and time. Come a few days later when I've arrived back into town I open my Uber app, click the Favorites tab and scroll to find my last driver. I request his services to my location and wait on a response from Uber letting me know if he is available at the moment. If he is available the app would proceed as usual, informing me of my wait time and who my driver is, except this time I already know who is coming. If my preferred driver is on another ride the app will inform me of this and allow me to request another driver or have Uber select one for me.

A app I would change is Yousician. This is a app where you can basically learn how to play the two most popular instrument guitar and piano. You have to make your own account to sign up or you can sign up through Facebook. Once you are log in it would let you choice what instrument you will like to learn, If it guitar it would first help you tune the guitar. Then it would also give you the opposition to learn chords or tabs. This app would only teach you the basic you need to know about this instrument. If you want to go more into music that where the money would come in. They charge you ten dollars ever month. That the part I would change. I would only change just pay ten dollars and you get the whole year free.
Anther thing that I don't like about this app and I will really change is put more option for songs to learn. You type in the bands name and you only get four song but the song you want to learn is not on the list. What the whole of paying ten dollars a month if you can get a chance to learn the song you want. For me that would be a waist of money.

I am going to be giving improvements to the DaftKings. I think that this app needs improvement because it lacks on information of certain sports. For example, making your team in soccer, it lets you choose a player that can be in the bench and not receive points. By not receiving points, the chances of winning money is very low. It should give an update on the squads of team before games and let changes be made in order to compete wisely. Another flaw that this app has is having the same user playing the league several times and winning the same money and letting others lose because he has the same players in all leagues.

Ellen DeGeneres vs. Oprah Winfrey
Ellen DeGeneres
"DeGeneres was born and raised in Metairie, Louisiana, the daughter of Betty DeGeneres (née Elizabeth Jane Pfeffer), a speech therapist, and Elliott Everett DeGeneres, an insurance agent."
"DeGeneres launched a daytime television talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, in September 2003."
Oprah Winfrey
"Winfrey was born into poverty in rural Mississippi to a teenage single mother and later raised in an inner-city Milwaukee neighborhood."
"The movie critic Roger Ebert persuaded her to sign a syndication deal with King World. Ebert predicted that she would generate 40 times as much revenue as his television show, At the Movies. It was renamed The Oprah Winfrey Show, expanded to a full hour, and broadcast nationally beginning September 8, 1986."
Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres are both public figures who have their own talk show. Both come from completely different lifestyles, backgrounds, beliefs and cultures. Their careers didn't happen from one day to the other. They started off small and worked their way up, they overcame their minority status to now becoming two of the most successful women on television. These two successful women are inspirational and along with overcoming hardships in their lives they have a huge heart, they have donated thousands and thousands of dollars to help remote rural areas and schools that are in need.

Metro
I would want to improve Metro by accurately having the
buses get to your stop on time without glitches and have Metro post on light
posts the Stop Number so everyone can know ahead of time what time the bus is
coming without having to wait hours for the next bus. It gets quite annoying
when you have the webpage open and it tells you the time the bus is coming but
not which one.
For people like me who rely on metro to get us places can be challenging. Metro has a website (metro.net) that provides you with options like: Maps, Timetables, Fares/TAP, Code of Conduct, Project labor, Nextrip, Mobile, 511, Careers, and Contact. Luckily I found out about Nextrip thanks to my bus stop. On a light post I saw that on a little dark purple sign, it had my route number (stop number). You enter the given number where it says “Enter stop number” and then it gives you options that read: Route (select your bus route), Direction (your destination), Stop (the place you are waiting for the bus). Then in a light blue box it tells you the time and what bus is coming, depending if the route you take has a short line and the regular route. But unfortunately, metro has quite a few glitches. First, not all bus stops have the stop number posted. Secondly, the website sometimes tends to show you the time it is coming but doesn’t differentiate between the two buses.

Coke v. Pepsi

coke:
"a product so culturally iconic that across a significant swath of the United States it serves as a generic term for what decent people call “soda”"
- shows that it coke is so popular and embedded in our society and pop culture that its basically a norm for us to drink coke.
"For the past 25 years, Coke advertising has focused on the brand first and foremost."
-shows that coke is mainly selling the name of the soda not as focused on advertising the taste of it
pepsi:
" It really is true that blind taste tests suggest that people like it better than Coke."
-shows that in tests pepsi is preferred because of its taste
"And while we want something sweet, we don’t necessarily want that kind of long-term relationship with something too sweet."
-shows how although people may like pepsi's taste in a blind taste test, people still continue to buy coke because its a norm taste of soda we want to drink

Morning People Vs. Night Owls
Morning People:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/01/morning-people-lark-early-bird_n_5044818.html
"In a 2008 study of college students at a Texas University, the students who identifed as morning-type people had GPAs that were a full point higher than those of their evening-type peers."
This shows that there is a significant difference in academic scores between both sets of people.
"We found that morningness in both younger and older people was associated with greater experience of positive emotions”
This shows a positive psychological impact on those who wake up earlier.
Night Owls:
http://www.businessinsider.com/night-owls-show-psychopathic-traits-2013-7
"People who prefer to work and play at night may have evolved to possess the so-called "Dark Triad" of psychological traits — psychopathy, narcissism, and manipulativeness"
This shows a negative psycological impact on those who are nocturnal.
"Night owls feel their smartest, most creative, and most productive in the evening or night hours — much later than early-risers"
Creativy and productivity emerges at night for night owls.

As I have previously discussed BRO is a location based dating app that is growing in popularity. It is an app that targets men and aims to create a stigma free environment for users to interact. The app is already functions well, but what if I told you we could make it better. My objective is to make BRO a social app. An app intended for communication of all sorts. It will still serve to allow its current users to interact. We are aiming to make it completely label free. We want to create a community for users of all walks of life to communicate and interact free of obligations and society's expectations. A place where anyone can have a meaningful conversation with anyone. Through a series of various updates we will turn BRO into the next big thing in communication.

Cristiano Ronaldo Vs Leonel Messi
There's no point in making predictions. It's not worth speculating because nothing is set in stone and things change all the time in football. Today there are opportunities that no one knows if they will come round again in the future (Ronaldo)
This quote shows that even the best player in the world did not think he can achieve success and be wherever he is now. He did not know that he will be in the the best team in the world. Starting at the age of 17 he did not speculate that he would be one of the best soccer players and be a player that has broken records and still continue to put numbers up that will soon be history. He took every opportunity that he had available to be at the top. Starting from Sporting, to Manchester, to Portugal and presently in Real Madrid. All his records will be standing and showing what he made of all his opportunities in life.
I always thought I wanted to play professionally, and I always knew that to do that I'd have to make a lot of sacrifices. I made sacrifices by leaving Argentina, leaving my family to start a new life. I changed my friends, my people. Everything. But everything I did, I did for football, to achieve my dream. (Messi)
Here is another example to achieve success. The sacrifice of leaving family to become the person he dreams about. Leaving Argentina and making a life in Spain was the best decision that he made. Making that decision of leaving was a hard decision for him but now he has made records that are irreplaceable, money that is unusual in Argetina and has made a family with everything he has achieved. He is the top of the world and changing his route was an amazing change.

Vegetarian Vs Non Vegetarian Foods
1.
"A person’s choice of diet reflects his
cultural / religious identity".
http://www.humanheed.com/articles/foods-information/vegetarian-vs-non-vegetarian-debate/
2. "Why Vegan
Diets May be a Bad Idea".
https://authoritynutrition.com/top-5-reasons-why-vegan-diets-are-a-terrible-idea/
I chose this comparison, because I am all for food, health and
well-being of a person, whether someone is following a vegetarian diet,
non-vegetarian diet I think is a personal
choice. We all have different
experiences in life, with our health and we all have a different
cultural/religious background. To begin with all of us grow up with what our
parents introduce to us, later in life we may deviate from it, explore new
things and decide what will be our new food choice, or others remain the same.
Vegetarian says killing an animal for food is sin but
according to a research more animals are killed for various reason excluding
consumption like scientific research, making cosmetics and costumes, etc. But
non-vegetarian says it is a food chain to follow in order to maintain balanced
food ecosystem.
There is a lot of pros and cons between both diets, for one one side vegetarian diet is rich in minerals and vitamins; important
to maintain the health of our body, fiber content, aids in proper digestion, it also reduces the risk of
chronic diseases and some cancer specifically colon and lung cancer. On the other hand, Non-vegetarian diet has a high biological value
protein, it has a main source of B complex
vitamin especially vitamin B12 and it is also rich in certain amino acids which body
cannot produce by own,

LED vs LCD
"LED and LCD – what’s the difference? It’s a question we hear a lot from budding home theater shoppers. Blame the acronyms. While yesterday’s consumers had to make a simple choice between CRT and rear-projection television sets, today’s consumers are confronted with plasma, LCD, DLP, OLED, and laser televisions."
This quote shows how as consumers we are constantly being sold on "new technology". It seems that we cannot get a break. Every six months something new comes out and our old gadgets are deemed useless or obsolete. Technology is moving at such a fast rate that soon enough they will replace a lot more than just older technology.
"LED TV’s carry a number of advantages over regular LCD TV’s with CCFL backlighting. First of all, LED’s are considerably smaller than CCFL tubes, which means LED TV’s can be made much thinner. These days, most TV’s that measure under an inch thick are made with LED because they add very little depth to the display profile."
This quote shows some of the improvements that has made LED television sets vastly superior to the older LCD technology. these upgrades are just a small portion of all the new things television manufactures must do in order to please consumers. I think that our demand for new technology has made the industry what it is today. Now there must always be an upgrade or else consumers get upset at what manufactures produce. Everything must be thinner, lighter, more efficient, and better looking in order to catch peoples attention.

Pinterest
- Pinterest is an app in which you fuel your creative side. Honestly, anything you can think of it is on there. It is more of a site to gain ideas for things you want to create, get themes from, hairstyles off of, clothing styles, makeup looks, home decor, halloween ideas, quotes to life, jokes to laugh at, good books to read, tattoos, and oh so much more. The list doesn't really stop. This application is very addicting and anyone who uses it would agree with me. Even though it is a very amazing app, it could use some improvements just like everything else does. One huge improvement would be to include the places in which you can have these ideas come to life. Most people are very creative so they don't need too much help. On the other hand there are many people in which they need all the help they can get for example me. It would be a very smart idea for pinterest to create a space in the post to where the individual can put where it is that people can get these items from, kind of like a "stores near you" section. They can list what stores they can get these items, and how much they can get these items for. If its too expensive, for certain items they can list an alternative for it.

High School vs College
"Guiding principle: You are expected to take responsibility for what you do and don't do, as well as for the consequences of your decisions"
This quote is exactly how it is in college. You are now grown to have your own responsibilities for everything you do or don't do. Some teachers may help you but no one is there to hold your hand through every single assignment or exam.
"No matter how many guidebooks you read or high school advisers you talk to, the only way to really understand what college is going to be like is to experience it firsthand"
Everyone's college experience is different. In my opinion, the way my high school teachers or even my sister explained how college was going to be is almost completely different than how it actually is. It wasn't until after my first semester I realized how college actually was.

Cars vs. Motorcycles
“Cars are neat, I like them a lot and I've been
fortunate to have had a few nice ones, but motorcycles have a long list of
advantages over their 4 wheel cousins”.
Motorcycles are faster than cars, are cheaper than
cars, use less gas, can skip traffic on the highway. By riding a motorcycle the
rider has more freedom and more fresh air. Riders concentrated more on the
street and everything that surrounds them compared to the people that text or
use cell phones while driving. Motorcycles use less parking space. The
insurance is cheaper compared to any car. Motorcycles don’t need a lot of
repairs and when they need are cheaper than a car. There have never been a
recall on a motorcycle compare to GMC recalls to their newest cars.
“Safety Features That May Save Your Life”
With the years cars have become more safety to drive,
all car have seat belts, and air bags that can save your life in a major
accident. Many cars now days have stability control, backing sensor and backup
camera to make a safe driving experience. Compare to motorcycles riders car
drivers have a better chance to survive an accident.

Comparing and contrasting: Religion and Politics
On whether or not churches should speak out on political matters: "Overall 49% of Americans think churches should speak out about political matters; 48% disagree. That has changed markedly since 2010, when 52% wanted preachers to keep their noses out of politics and only 43% didn’t."
I chose this quote as it truly shows the people's split desire to either keep church and state separate, or unite the two. Religion and politics are two very controversial topics in their own right, but when combined and the debate of whether or not the two should be intertwined arises, people are split. The statistics speak for themselves, with support for either argument being virtually split.
On which party supports which religion: "Only 29% of Americans see the Democratic Party as friendly to religion; 47% see the Republicans that way. So in the most devout parts of the country Democratic candidates tend to distance themselves from the party’s national stereotype, and vice versa."
This quote was interesting as people who are religious usually tend to favor the Republican party, and tend not to favor the democratic party.

Blogger # 4: Books vs. Movies
"As to which medium is more effective in eliciting a response, there may be no good answer."
There is always going be some who prefers movies and someone who prefers books. Everyone receives information differently. Some people are more easily swayed by words and others with visual effects.
"It is still up to the individual to decide which they prefer, as both book and movie have their singular merits."
I like this quote, because although I am a movie lover, there were instances where I preferred the book over a movie and I dislike reading. Books give more detail and go in depth, but movies are more concise but show more visually.

Prison Vs. Rehab
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-howard-samuels/prison-vs-rehab-what-real_b_571055.html
Prison
"It may be sobering to be in jail, but being locked up doesn't ensure real sobriety."
- People think the best thing for drug addicts is for them to go to prison, what they don't understand is that in the long run it did nothing for them. If anything it just makes things worse.
Rehab
"The war on substance abuse is fought successfully by helping the individual become drug free."
- Rehab not only helps them become sober but it helps keep them sober, usually by dealing with the underlying problem, and it helps them with building their life afterwards.

"The world agrees that genocide is unacceptable and yet genocide and mass killings continue."
We all understand that genocide of whatever multitude is something that should never ever happen yet to this day it continues to happen. I just don't understand why people think it is right to kill other people especially in mass numbers like the Holocaust. Race, religion nor gender should not be an issue anymore.
"When, last May, the writer Elie Wiesel, himself a former prisoner in Buchenwald, accompanied President Obama and Chancellor Angela Merkel to the site of the camp, he said that he had always imagined that he would return some day and tell his father's ghost that the world had learned from the Holocaust. But, Wiesel continued, had the world actually learned anything, "there would be no Cambodia, and no Rwanda and no Darfur and no Bosnia."
Losing people impacts the world and should help us learn that the act of murdering people doesn't solve anything, especially when the people who died had no fault in them. It is sad to know that the survivors of the Holocaust are yet again living through such cruelty as what they've been put through. Maybe not physically but they know fully well how brutal war can be.
Hopefully in this paper, I will come to learn the deep effects it has in our world, distinguish the similarities and differences between them and maybe be able to find solutions.

1. I want to improve netflix by adding a "binging" mode. Everyone has those days where they are going to stay in and watch netflix ALL day. Those days where someone can watch a whole season of a series one one single day. How annoying is it when you are under the blankets, as cozy as can be, and you have to get up, or move around, and not be cozy to press a button they assures the app that you are, indeed, still watching. I understand why they have that feature. Someone could have been watching a title, then get distracted. Another could have had all intentions of watching, but an emergency happened and they left netflix on. I want the app to have a binging mode, so that I can assure the app that I will be there watching.

3.“Netflix is a global provider of streaming movies and TV series, has over 75 million subscribers as of 2016. Netflix started as an American DVD-by-mail service in 1998, and began streaming in 2007” (Wikipedia). At some point, people started choosing streaming media over paying for cable. It has become so popular to stream media that many peoples can devote their days to it. There has become a term for it. The term is called “Binge Watching.” People stay in all day and watch episode after episode, until they have to get back into reality. Some people watch in pairs, others can watch alone. There are so many option on how to “Binge.” After watching about two episode of almost anything on Netflix, it is not absurd to assume that you have made yourself comfortable. The level of comfort that makes you not want to move because you can disrupt that level of comfort and nor be able to achieve it. What do you do when Netflix stops the comfort because you have to find your remote to continue watching. There is no other option but to move. I want to create a mode on the application/ Website that allows you to be acknowledged as a “binge” watcher. Once acknowledged, there will be no pause in your shows. The shows will continue to play until you choose not to watch or until you have finished that title.

Six Flags Vs. Disneyland
http://traveltips.usatoday.com/disneyland-vs-six-flags-10744.html
"The rides stress excitement, speed and “extreme” thrills, though they offer a few family-based rides as well. The company also established a water park--Six Flags Hurricane Harbor--on the property, which Disneyland doesn’t offer."
-Shows the thrill seeking point I will show and explain to my audience.
" Magic Mountain is closed on weekdays in the off-season, and Hurricane Harbor closes from September until late May. Weekend hours run from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. or 10:30 p.m., and summer weekday hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m."
-I will be showing one of the flaws, in my opinion, about six flags.

1. Drag Queens v. Transgender men
2. Real Talk with RuPaul
http://www.vulture.com/2016/03/rupaul-drag-race-interview.html
3. "I think it's a boring topic. I don't really want to talk about that because everybody wants to ask about that. It's so topical, but they're complete opposites. We mock identity. They take identity very seriously. So it's the complete opposite ends of the scale. To a layperson, it seems very similar, but it's really not. "
Growing up I was taught that a drag queen and transgender man were the same thing: a "tranny". I was taught that they are essentially a joke. Sadly this is far from the truth and the queen of all drag queens sums it up best in the quote above. My main objective in the comparison essay will be to distinguish the two.
"I don't think it's complicated."
When she was Rupaul was told that distinguishing drag queens and transgender men is complicated she shut it down. It is not complicated and in reality should not even matter. My secondary objective will be to make the distinction as easy as ABC.

- Pescetarian vs Omnivore diet
- Article: - 30 DAYS AS A PESCETARIAN: WHAT I LEARNED
- 5 Reasons to Become a Pescetarian
- Quotes:
- (Article 1) “But then I slowly started watching documentaries and doing research on everything from cruelty to the farm animals we eat (including pumping them full of hormones and chemicals), to the link between red meat and cancer and heart disease (my family has a history of heart problems). And while I am a natural skeptic, it’s pretty hard to argue against science like that.” Krystal Yee. Relevance: Links between food and illness
- (Article 1) “Over the last month, I learned a lot about myself. Like, how to control cravings: when all I want is a big, juicy burger, how can I convince myself to eat an eggplant instead? And that quitting meat had no real impact on my life, aside from losing weight and having more energy. That surprised me. I thought I’d have to make tough food decisions and maybe even decline dinners out. But every restaurant had something delicious I could eat – I wasn’t stuck just nibbling on a crappy salad. And I always felt full.” Krystal Yee. Relevance: Cravings and the effects.
- (Article 2) “Meat is often covered in pesticides and chemicals that are harmful, and after extended consumption, can be very dangerous, to humans. Every bite of a beef/pork hotdog contains seven cancer-causing pesticides. And here’s a shocking fact, brought to light by David Steinman’s “Living Healthy in a Toxic World“: The primary source of nuclear radiation contamination in humans is from beef and dairy products.” Chloe Spencer. Relevance: Chemicals used in animal agriculture.
- (Article 2) “The Vegetarian Resource Group reports that one pound of beef requires 2,500 gallons of water, whereas one pound of soy requires only 250 gallons of water and a pound of wheat requires only 25 gallons. If you want to help save our water, cutting meat from your diet one way that you get active.” Chloe Spencer. Relevance: Animal agriculture and the hand it plays in the drought.

Blogger #5 PlanMyEvent.Com
I'm going to use my idea for a website I'd like to create one day known as PlanMyEvent.Com". This is a website idea of mine that I used for a business project two semesters ago. This website will be used to assist its customers in creating the event of their liking. This website will also give its customers ideas on different types of events, as well as themes, and assistance for its events. PlanMyEvent.com will one day be a very easy to use website that almost anyone can use. It will start with a questionnaire in order for us to understand our customers idea better, as well as understand what it is their looking to accomplish. Plan my event, will plug the customers up with venues/locations, vendors, catering companies, security companies, party supply companies, entertainment, etc. And in turn how we will create revenue, is by each company plan my event uses in its events, Plan my event, will take a small portion of each compensation per company.

Prompt: Wednesday, March 30th
I want us to get started on our final research project since it is going to take some time to get started. You are going to create your own application/website and provide the research and information needed to do so. Now, if you have no idea where to start or you don't have any creative ideas for a new app-- you can always choose an app idea that you are familiar with but you have some ideas for app improvement. This works also. Here are a few steps to help with the research process.
Final Research Project Preparation
I want us to get started on our final research project since it is going to take some time to get started. You are going to create your own application/website and provide the research and information needed to do so. Now, if you have no idea where to start or you don't have any creative ideas for a new app-- you can always choose an app idea that you are familiar with but you have some ideas for app improvement. This works also. Here are a few steps to help with the research process.
- Create a freewrite where you start to brainstorm ideas for a new app or improvements to a current one. Here you want to get out your ideas and get a starting point to work from.
- What type of application are you interested in creating or improving? You want to find out what category of application this fits under. This will help you find out if your idea already exists or not. It will also help you find out what similar applications are already out there.
- If you are coming up with a brand new idea- you want to find the closest application to your idea or the one that inspired you. You are going to find 2 sources/articles (this doesn't have to be a print source- you can find a video, etc.) that discuss this app (at least one needs to be a scholarly article). For one of these articles, you need to create a page summary that includes the articles 1) thesis 2) supporting evidence 3) end results/conclusions.
- If you are going to make improvements to a current application, you have two find 2 sources/articles (this doesn't have to be a print source- you can find a video, etc.) that discuss it. For one of these articles, you need to create a page summary that includes the articles 1) thesis 2) supporting evidence 3) end results/conclusions.
- After doing some basic research on your idea, you are going to create a 250 word (no more) proposal about your idea. This is just a draft of your proposal. Here you want to essentially "pitch" your idea by stating what you app does, how it does it, and why this is an app that would be useful. You are trying to persuade an audience to want to invest in your idea.
