LED vs LCD
"LED and LCD – what’s the difference? It’s a question we hear a lot from budding home theater shoppers. Blame the acronyms. While yesterday’s consumers had to make a simple choice between CRT and rear-projection television sets, today’s consumers are confronted with plasma, LCD, DLP, OLED, and laser televisions."
This quote shows how as consumers we are constantly being sold on "new technology". It seems that we cannot get a break. Every six months something new comes out and our old gadgets are deemed useless or obsolete. Technology is moving at such a fast rate that soon enough they will replace a lot more than just older technology.
"LED TV’s carry a number of advantages over regular LCD TV’s with CCFL backlighting. First of all, LED’s are considerably smaller than CCFL tubes, which means LED TV’s can be made much thinner. These days, most TV’s that measure under an inch thick are made with LED because they add very little depth to the display profile."
This quote shows some of the improvements that has made LED television sets vastly superior to the older LCD technology. these upgrades are just a small portion of all the new things television manufactures must do in order to please consumers. I think that our demand for new technology has made the industry what it is today. Now there must always be an upgrade or else consumers get upset at what manufactures produce. Everything must be thinner, lighter, more efficient, and better looking in order to catch peoples attention.
