Comparing and contrasting: Religion and Politics

On whether or not churches should speak out on political matters:  "Overall 49% of Americans think churches should speak out about political matters; 48% disagree. That has changed markedly since 2010, when 52% wanted preachers to keep their noses out of politics and only 43% didn’t."

I chose this quote as it truly shows the people's split desire to either keep church and state separate, or unite the two. Religion and politics are two very controversial topics in their own right, but when combined and the debate of whether or not the two should be intertwined arises, people are split. The statistics speak for themselves, with support for either argument being virtually split.

On which party supports which religion: "Only 29% of Americans see the Democratic Party as friendly to religion; 47% see the Republicans that way. So in the most devout parts of the country Democratic candidates tend to distance themselves from the party’s national stereotype, and vice versa."

This quote was interesting as people who are religious usually tend to favor the Republican party, and tend not to favor the democratic party.
